FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF LAVRAS (UFLA) TRAINING FOR AGRICULTURAL EXTENSIONIST ON BETTER USE OF WATER, AGRICULTURAL TOOLS AND BETTER MAINTANANCE OF SOIL HEALTH.

A total of 31 Agriculture Officers from Mwanza, Tabora, Katavi, Morogoro, Singida, Geita and Simiyu Regions have been trained in the efficient use of water, soil health care and the efficient use of agricultural tools used in cotton cultivation.
The five-day training from October 28 to November 1, 2024, was held at the TARI Ukiriguru Center conducted by instructors from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) - Brazil under the Cotton Victoria project.
Dr. Paul Saidia Director of the TARI Ukiriguru center and National cotton coordinator during the opening, congratulated the participants for coming and encouraged them to follow the training aimed at helping the cotton Farmer.
"This training you get is aimed at helping the farmer in the fields of better water use, soil health care and also the better use of agricultural tools used in the cultivation and production of the cotton crop," said Dr. Saidia
In addition, when he opened the training, he emphasized on the new technology of planting the cotton crop where until now the technology has been able to reach more than 217,000 farmers in 11 cotton producing regions.
“Thanks, the Government of Tanzania through Tanzania agricultural research institute (TARI) Ukiriguru center in parallel with the Government of Brazil through the Cotton Victoria project for bringing the training that will help increase productivity and income for the cotton farmer” said Ms. Kija Kayenze, an agricultural extension officer from Simiyu region.
