TARI Kihinga has conducted an exercise to distribute 2000 Oil Palm seedlings to farmers of Kigoma Ujiji Municipal Council and Kigoma Rural District Council. The exercise took place at TARI Kihinga Research Center where the official guest of honour was the Kigoma District Commissioner, Hon. Ester Alexander Mahawe. Speaking at the event, the District Commissioner advised farmers to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the government to bring services closer by establishing TARI Kihinga Research Center in Kigoma Region as well as providing free seedlings. She also advised the farmers, especially in Kigoma Region, to take advantage of the Oil Palm Crop opportunity as there is a rise in price of edible oil in the world market due to CORONA epidemic which has led to an increase in the price of Oil Palm and making palm oil more valuable. For his part, Businde ward Councilor Hon. Masoud Kassim, who is also an Oil Palm farmer, praised the government's efforts to see the potential for palm oil and called on the government to expand the Oil Palm opportunity all over the country by increasing budget to TARI so as to reduce oil shortages in the country.
