Farmers in Mkuranga District in Coastal Region have been advised to learn the best technologies for the cultivation of coconuts and other crops taught by researchers in different research centers and stations including Mkuranga experimental station situated in Mkuranga District.
The call was made on June 11, 2024, by the centre Manager for TARI Mikocheni, Dr. Fred Tairo, during farmer's field day held in Mkuranga at Mkuranga sub station for TARI Mikocheni.
"In our stations there are experts, so I invite farmers to come and learn these improved technologies along the value chain of coconut and other crops, the knowledge that will foster productivity in their farming activities" said Dr. Tairo.
Dr. Geradina Mzena- TARI’s Director of Technology Transfer and Partnerships has urged farmers to adopt the knowledge and technologies taught to them during farmer's field day.

On his part, Fikirini Mtanga - a coconut farmer at Dundani village, found in Mkuranga district said shared his experience on how he benefitted from knowledge delivered to them by researcher about intercroping farming which helps to increase production of other crops when the coconut crop has not reached the harvest time also through the technology it helps to control insects that normally hinder productity in the coconut farming.
Farmers can reach out to TARI Mikocheni Centre which is mandated to conduct research of the coconut crop at the national level.
