Fantastic Educational Visit of the students and teachers of Kiyongwile Secondary School at Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI -Ifakara)

About 54 students, 32 Males and 22 females and 3 teachers of Kiyongwile Secondary School in Ifakara kilombero have visited Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute, TARI Ifakara (katrin) with the aim of Study tour and learning the following topics
· Principles of rice farming,
· Research being done at TARI Ifakara
· Technologies available at TARI Ifakara,
· How the community benefits from the existence of institutions,
· Other activities done at TARI Ifakara
Principles of Rice Farming:
· Pre-planting activities: Choosing the right variety, developing a cropping calendar, and preparing the rice field for planting.
· Growth management: Important factors during the growth of the rice crop include planting method, water, fertilizer, weeds, and pests and diseases.
· Postproduction: After harvesting, the rice paddy undergoes postharvest processes including drying, storage, and milling to ensure good eating quality and marketability.
Research at TARI Ifakara:
· TARI Ifakara is known for making significant contributions to rice agriculture in Tanzania.
· They conduct various training programs such as Labour Service Providers’ Training on the Sustainable Rice Platform standard.
Technologies Available at TARI Ifakara:
· TARI Ifakara apply different technologies to produce high yield seeds such as TXD 306 (SARO 5), TARI RIC1 and TARI RIC2.
· And has introduced new technologies to support the government’s initiative to transform agriculture.
Community Benefits from TARI Ifakara:
· Training programs and the introduction of sustainable farming practices help in increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security.
Other activities being done at TARI Ifakara:
· TARI Ifakara collaborates with various organizations to foster sustainable rice production and make climate finance more accessible to support smallholder rice farmers.
· TARI Ifakara involved in research to develop and disseminate resilient rice varieties that meet the needs of farmers and consumers.
