“KILIMO THABITI PROJECT’’ KICK OFF MEETING RECENTLY HELD IN BUNDA-MARA REGION.

On 22nd to 26th
January,2024 a team of researchers from TARI Ukiriguru in collaboration with
Tanzania Youth Espouse for Gender and Development(TYEGD), Esoko and weather
Impact participated on “Kilimo thabiti Project “kick off meeting in Bunda-Mara
region.
The new project will focus on
integrating weather information and good agriculture practices (GAPs) for
cassava and maize crops production in Bunda DC, Bunda TC and Butiama District
in Mara region. During the week, 30 citizen scientists and six extension
officers from the selected Districts were capacitated on how to take rainfall
and soil moisture measurements. Thus, they will be responsible in data collection
and share online. At the end of the training each participant was awarded with
a certificate.
During project implementation TARI
Ukiriguru will be responsible for back stopping on Gaps, training, surveys,
data collection and participate in advisory messages development, TYEGD will do
capacity building and monitoring, Esoko will engage in generating online data
collection tools and digital and disseminating of weather information and
advisory messages to farmers, and weather impact is responsible for project
coordination and weather forecasting based on the online shared data from
farmers and satellite.
At TARI the project is coordinated by
Dr. Deusdedith P. Mlay. The project is funded by Fund for Innovation and
Development(FID).
